ADAS calibration

In-house ADAS calibration

The cameras and radar behind emergency braking, lane keeping and blind-spot warnings sit in the parts that get damaged. When a repair moves them, we recalibrate them here.

What ADAS is

Advanced driver-assistance systems. Most recent cars have some mix of automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and parking sensors or surround-view cameras. They rely on cameras behind the windshield and radar units behind the bumpers and grille.

Why a repair triggers a calibration

Each sensor is aimed at a precise angle relative to the car’s centerline. Replace a bumper cover, windshield, mirror or grille, or move a sensor bracket, and that angle can change. A camera that’s slightly off can misjudge where the lane is or how far away the car ahead is.

Calibrations now appear on 28.3% of repairable collision estimates, according to CCC Intelligent Solutions’ Crash Course 2026 report.

Static and dynamic calibration

  • Static: indoors on a level floor, with targets set at measured distances in front of the car while a scan tool calibrates the sensor.
  • Dynamic: on the road, driven under the conditions the manufacturer specifies while a scan tool watches the sensor learn.

How we handle it

Calibration is done in-house, by our own team, as part of the repair. The shop that fixed the car is the one making sure its sensors see straight, and it appears as its own line on your estimate.

FAQ

ADAS questions

Do you calibrate here or send the car out?

Here. Calibration is done in our own shop as part of the repair, so the car doesn’t need a separate appointment at a dealer or calibration shop.

Does every collision repair need an ADAS calibration?

No. It depends on which parts were damaged or removed and what the manufacturer’s repair procedure calls for. Bumper, grille, windshield, mirror and suspension work are the common triggers.

There are no warning lights on my dashboard. Isn’t the system fine?

Not necessarily. A camera or radar sensor can be slightly out of alignment without setting a warning light. The manufacturer’s procedure decides whether a calibration is required, not the dashboard.

Will insurance pay for a calibration?

When the calibration is needed because of the covered damage, it’s normally part of the repair estimate, listed with the manufacturer’s requirement so the adjuster can see why.
