Paint and refinish

Paint and refinish in Bryn Mawr

A good paint repair is one you can’t find. It starts with matching the color your car is today.

Why the paint code isn’t enough

Every car has a paint code, usually on a label in the driver’s door jamb. Manufacturers often use several slightly different versions of the same code, and paint changes with years of sun and weather. Paint mixed to the code alone can look right indoors and wrong in daylight.

How we match it

We spray in our own Garmat paint booth, here at the shop.

  1. Find the right variant of your color as the starting point.
  2. Test before the car: a sprayed test card is compared against the car in good light and the mix adjusted.
  3. Blend the new color into the panels beside the repair, then clear coat to match the factory finish.

Pearl and tri-coat colors

Many whites and reds are built from more than one layer, and the result depends on how each goes on. They take longer to match, which is why they can cost more to refinish.

Scratches and chips

A scratch that hasn’t gone through the clear coat can often be polished out. One that shows primer or bare metal needs the area refinished, to keep the color even and stop rust.

FAQ

Paint questions

Why are you painting a panel that wasn’t damaged?

That’s blending. Fading the new color into the panel next to the repair hides any tiny difference at the edge, so your eye can’t find where the repair stops.

Will the new paint match?

It should. We start from the right variant of your color, spray a test card and compare it to the car in daylight, then blend into the panels around the repair.

Is paintwork covered by the warranty?

Our lifetime guarantee covers our repairs. You can read how it works on the guarantee page.
