Insurance claims: call us first
We work with most major insurance companies and we’ll guide you through the claim. In Pennsylvania, the choice of body shop is yours.

Your right to choose the shop
No appraiser, and no company an appraiser works for, may require that repairs be made in a specified repair shop.
Motor Vehicle Physical Damage Appraiser Act, 63 P.S. § 861(d). The written appraisal must say so: 31 Pa. Code § 62.3.
An insurer can still recommend its own network shops. It can’t require one. If you want the car fixed here, tell the adjuster that’s where it’s going.
How a claim works here
- Report the claim to your insurer (or the other driver’s) and get a claim number.
- Tell them the car is going to Bryn Mawr Auto Body, 713 W Haverford Rd.
- We write the estimate and work with the adjuster, including any hidden damage found once the car is apart.
- At pickup, on your own policy you usually pay your deductible to us and the insurer pays the rest. On the other driver’s claim there’s normally no deductible.
File a claim, or pay yourself?
If the damage is minor and the estimate lands close to your deductible, paying yourself can cost less over time. If another driver was at fault, it usually belongs on their insurance. Get the written estimate first, then decide.

Look for this line on your appraisal
“…there is no requirement to use any specified repair shop.”

FAQ
Insurance questions
Do I have to use the body shop my insurance company recommends?
No. Under Pennsylvania law (63 P.S. § 861(d)) an insurance appraiser, or the company they work for, can’t require that repairs be made at a particular shop, and the appraisal has to say so in writing (31 Pa. Code § 62.3). Your insurer can recommend a shop. Where the car goes is up to you.
Is Bryn Mawr Auto Body in my insurer’s network?
We work with most major insurance companies. Ask us about yours. Whoever you’re insured with, we work with the adjuster the same way.
What if you find more damage after the adjuster’s estimate?
That’s common once a car is taken apart. We document it and send the insurer a supplement for approval before doing the extra work.
Should I file a claim for small damage?
Sometimes it isn’t worth it. If the repair costs close to your deductible, paying yourself can make more sense. Get the estimate first and decide with the number in front of you.
